Yellow Fever Vaccinations are now available.

Stay healthy overseas with travel vaccines

New Zealand has a good track record of avoiding many diseases, including yellow fever, typhoid and hepatitis A.  We no longer vaccinate against these as there are so few cases around.

But you can still catch these types of diseases when you travel. Of course, Covid-19 is an ongoing problem as is Measles.  So it’s a good idea to get all the right vaccinations before you head out of the country.

Travel Medicine is not covered by the Ministry of Health subsidies. The fees for adult consultations (Nurse & GP time) are $96 and $48 for children.

Required vaccinations for travel may include:

  • Polio booster
  • Hepatitis A or B
  • Japanese encephalitis
  • Tick-borne encephalitis
  • Rabies
  • Some types of meningitis
  • TB
  • Yellow fever*
  • Typhoid

Required vaccinations for travel vary by destination. Clinic staff will be able to advise you on what vaccinations you’ll need. We can also help you get fit to fly with pre-departure tests as required by the Ministry of Health.

*A double consultation fee applies for Yellow Fever vaccinations.

When should you get travel vaccines?

Some vaccinations take time to start working fully – your body needs to develop immunity. Also, some vaccines require more than one dose.

Book your appointment for travel vaccines 8 to 10 weeks before you plan to leave.

You may also need medication to prevent diseases like malaria, and it’s a good idea to start taking these before you leave.

We can answer any questions you have about travel health – clinic staff are here to help!
